Established in 1959, the Marché du Film is one of the largest and most important film markets in the world and is held annually in conjunction with the Cannes Film Festival. During the event, the region’s delegation also presented the services of the Central Macedonia Region Film Office and networked with film professionals. This year’s Marche du Film attracted over 14,000 people from 120 countries this year. The Central Macedonia Region Film Office, a member of the Εuropean Film Commissions Network (EUFCN), teamed up with the Hellenic Film Commission (ΕΚΚ) and attended the Cannes Film Market to promote Greek productions, locations and services. Under a recently-signed memorandum of understanding, the region and EKK agreed to develop common actions with the aim of attracting more film productions to the area and serving as an example for other film offices across Greece. “This is a very important time for audiovisual productions in Central Macedonia,” said Central Macedonia Regional Governor Apostolos Tzitzikostas, adding that all the more Hollywood producers are choosing to shoot in the region. Tzitzikostas went on to add that this year, the Film Office is officially launching its collaboration with the Hellenic Film Center with the aim of “strengthening synergies and joint actions abroad for the targeted promotion of Central Macedonia as a film destination”. On the sidelines of the event, Film Office representatives met with Greek and international film festival organizers, filmmakers, and producers. “We are demonstrating that we have the development tools, partnerships, locations and people to showcase the potential of our region in film tourism as well,” said the Film Office.
