Photo by Aliki Eleftheriou Greece’s new prime minister, the Harvard-educated Kyriakos Mitsotakis was sworn in for a second, four-year term today at the Presidential Palace after his party New Democracy secured 158 seats in the 300-seat parliament following repeat elections on Sunday. Mitsotakis, who met today with Greek President Katerina Sakellaropoulou and interim PM Ioannis Sarmas to receive the mandate to form a government, pledged to push forward with reforms, create new jobs, raise wages and boost state revenues. “It is a special honor to undertake this mandate to form a government with a four-year horizon. The Greeks have every right to claim a better future. I am committed to implementing major changes and reforms,” Mitsotakis told Sakellaropoulou after receiving the official mandate. I will proceed immediately to form a government focused on hard work and measurable results,” he added. The 55-year-old Mitsotakis secured a parliamentary majority in yesterday’s second round of elections, with a 40.56 percent of the vote over opposition party and rivals Syriza (17.83 percent and 48 seats). Mitsotakis announced his new cabinet on Monday evening. Among others, the Greek PM has hinted at creating a “rotation” government as well as increasing the number of women and younger generation representation in his cabinet.
