Monika Witkowska, a Polish hiker, journalist, author and influencer, recently climbed Mount Olympus in Central Macedonia and reached Mytikas, the mountain’s peak at 2,917 meters (9,572.60 ft) and highest in Greece. Witkowska’s climb took place on the sidelines of a press trip, organized by the Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO) Polish branch in collaboration with the Central Macedonia Region, held to promote the wider Pieria destination to the Polish market. During her stay and accompanied by mountaineering journalist and book editor Adam Rowicki, Witkowska climbed Mount Olympus and also visited the nearby town of Litochoro and the archaeological site of Dion. With her extensive mountaineering experience, Witkowska has traveled around the world and written 11 books on mountaineering tourism. She shares her passion for mountaineering through her website (www.monikawitkowska.pl), instagram, and facebook page, which boast a strong following of 20,000 followers. According to the GNTO, Witkowska’s visit to Greece proved to be an enriching experience, as she gathered valuable material, information, and photographs for her upcoming book. Scheduled for publication in 2025, the book will feature a section dedicated to Mount Olympus. Photo source: GNTO. Moreover, according to GNTO, the Polish hiker plans to share her experience in Pieria through articles in respected travel and mountain magazines. She also intends to engage her audience through webinars and will present the destination as a guest on popular TV travel shows. Last month, the Thessaly Region announced the launch of themountolympus.com, an online platform aiming to inspire users to visit through photos and online tours, among others. Earlier this year, the Greek ministries of culture and environment recently submitted a nomination file to the UNESCO World Heritage Committee for the inclusion of Mount Olympus in the coveted list.
