Photo source: Greek Tourism Ministry Greece and Malta on Wednesday agreed to sign a cooperation agreement to strengthen tourism relations. The announcement followed a meeting held in Athens between Greek Tourism Minister Olga Kefalogianni and her Maltese counterpart, Clayton Bartolo. Photo source: Greek Tourism Ministry During the meeting, Kefalogianni presented the main axes of the strategic development plan of Greek tourism and the priorities set by the ministry for the sector’s sustainable development. Bartolo showed particular interest on the thematic forms of tourism that Greece is developing and talked about launching joint Greek-Maltese programs to attract tourists from long-haul markets. In addition, he informed his Greek counterpart about the efforts carried out by the Ministry of Tourism of Malta to attract major international film producers to the country. Also discussed were issues related to tourism promotion and the development of joint actions with regard to the operation of Destination Management & Promotion Organizations (DMMOs). Kefalogianni pointed out the prospect of introducing and promoting to Maltese travelers new tourism destinations in Greece, alongside the need to support the existing ones. Following the meeting, Malta’s tourism minister extended an official invitation to Kefalogianni to visit Malta in the near future. At the meeting, Minister Bartolo was accompanied by the Maltese Ambassador in Athens Joseph Cuschieri and the Head of Secretariat of Malta’s Ministry of Tourism, Simon Stellini.
