Demand for holidays in Greece this summer is on the rise with more travelers choosing affordable short-term rental options, longer stays and lesser-known destinations, according to Airbnb.

Based on the number of recent searches for Airbnbs in Greece, the Top 10 most affordable destinations costing up to 100 dollars per night are: Kallithea (Athens), Chios island, Pangaio (North Macedonia and Thrace), Municipality of Neapolis – Sykeon (Central Macedonia), Ermoupolis (Syros), Ikaria, Kos, Lefkada, Thessaloniki, and Thermaikos.

According to the same data, the most desirable short-stays in Greece this summer are located in Santorini, Chania (Crete), Lefkada, Kefalonia, Tinos, Milos, Mykonos and Leros.

Searches for Airbnbs up 70%

Assessing search data, Airbnb found that the number of searches for short-term rentals in Greece this summer is up 70 percent compared to a year ago.

“It’s an exciting time to see how Greeks travel: people want to travel more than ever because they want to be connected. After years of isolation, people seek to reconnect,” said Giacomo Trovato, Airbnb Country Manager for Southeast Europe.

Additionally, data reveals that Airbnb users in Greece are staying longer. Indicatively, one in seven bookings made by Greek travelers in the first quarter of the year concerned stays for 28 days or more.

“Not only are we seeing a significant increase in Greek travelers looking to Airbnb for their summer vacations, but we are also seeing an evolution in the way Greek visitors travel – they are staying longer, looking for affordable options and exploring new destinations,” said Trovato.

According to the data, Airbnb users are already planning their summer holidays in over 72,000 cities and towns worldwide.
