A group of Israeli journalists recently took part in a press trip to Corfu and had the chance to experience all that the Ionian island has to offer travelers.

A collaboration between the Israeli branch of the Greek National tourism Organization (GNTO) and TUS Airways, the press trip was held to showcase the island as a tourism destination and also promote the direct air connection between Tel Aviv and Corfu to the Israeli market.

The Israeli journalists that came to Corfu represented leading media outlets such as Mako.co.il (associated with Keshet or Channel 12, Israel’s largest TV channel), Walla.co.il (a leading TV station), Haaretz.co.il (Israel’s historic and largest subscription-based information source) and 13tv.co.il (owned by Reshet or Channel 13, the second largest television channel in Israel with a focus on leisure and entertainment).

Led by GNTO Israeli branch official Esther Eskaloni-Shadmon, the Israeli group visited Corfu’s historic San Giacomo Town Hall, where they were welcomed by Corfu Mayor Meropi Ydraiou.

During the meeting that followed, Ydraiou presented Corfu as a tourist destination to the group, highlighting its natural, historical, cultural, and architectural attractions.

In addition, local officials answered questions regarding Corfu’s advantages compared to other destinations and discussed the historical ties between the Jewish Community of Corfu and the Israeli people.

Furthermore, Corfu Hoteliers Association President Christos Katsigiannis presented the island’s hotel offerings while the Association of Corfu Travel Agents (AOCTA) General Secretary Napoleon Patras accompanied the Israeli delegation at their tour at Corfu’s landmarks and the private boat cruise to the island’s pristine beaches that followed.

The press trip was sponsored by the Angsana Hotel Group.

Corfu was recently chosen as the backdrop for the upcoming film “The Return”, featuring acclaimed actors Ralph Fiennes and Juliette Binoche.
