The local cuisine and unique agricultural products of Lesvos, Lemnos and Poros these days are being introduced and promoted to foodies through three gastronomy events held under the auspices of the Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO). The 5th Lesvos Gastronomy Festival “Lesvos Food Fest” is running until July 23 in the areas of Agiasos, Petra, Gera, Agia Paraskevi, Mytilene, Stypsi, Polichnitos, Sigri, Plomari and Molyvos. The festival features educational seminars, cooking workshops, product tastings, live cooking, parties, traditional feasts, and concerts. The event looks to promote Lesvos, its people and ambiance, elements that make up the identity of its culinary culture, and and the same time contribute to the international promotion of the island as a major gastronomy destination. Lemon Festival 2023 The “Lemon Festival 2023” has kicked off on Poros will run until July 30. Organized by the Poros Women’s Cultural Association “Poriotissa”, the festival includes activities to promote the lemon – the island’s main product. Activities include a variety of lemon-related preparations, saffron fishing, theatrical performances, concerts and a choir performance. The main aim of the festival is to promote the lemon as a local product of agricultural development in Greece and abroad. The Lemon Festival also looks to showcase the advantages it offers to health, as well as its use in local cuisine, confectionery and distilling through organic production methods. Lemnos Philema 2023 The 5th Lemnos Gastronomy & Wine Festival “Lemnos Philema 2023” will be held in Myrina on July 21 and 22. Considered an innovative gastronomy tourism action, the event promotes the Mediterranean lifestyle based on Greek gastronomy and strongly contributes to showcasing the island of Lemnos to markets abroad. The aim of Lemnos Philema is to promote the local gastronomy, hospitality and the sense of “philema” which in Greek means “offering guests a treat”. The festival will feature a workshop on “Localness and Greek products abroad“, the Lemnos Philema Awards and a live cooking session by chefs Elias Mamalakis, Dina Nikolaou and Marina Zafiri.
