As part of its strategic plan to promote Skiathos to the Italian and Romanian markets and boost tourist flows to the island, the Municipality of Skiathos announced that it had joined forces with Hungarian low-cost airline Wizz Air. The news comes after similar partnerships earlier this year with Cyprus Airways, TUI and Jet2. The two sides have agreed to a joint promotional campaign that includes online marketing actions on the Wizz Air website, blog posts, an island guide and targeted mails to over 100,000 partners and tourist agents in Rome, Milan, Napoli, and Budapest. The municipality had initiated negotiations with Wizz Air in 2021 so that the airline would include Skiathos in its direct destination routes from airports in Italy, which it did in 2022 and 2023. The main objective, Tzoumas said, is to strengthen traditional source markets and reach out to new ones. “In 2023, we will be carrying out promotional actions in the UK, the Netherlands, Germany, France, Romania, Italy, Spain, Serbia, and Cyprus,” he said. Founded in 2003, Wizz Air serves 54 countries and flies to 194 airports with a fleet of 175 aircraft set to grow to 500 by 2030.
