Destinations news Greece’s Hotels, Campsites See Arrivals Jump 74.4% in 2022 by GTP editing team 19 July 2023 written by GTP editing team 19 July 2023 0 comments Share 0FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 17 Photo © Greek Travel Pages (GTP) Greece’s accommodation establishments marked a 74.4 percent increase in arrivals in 2022 compared to 2021 and a 79.7 percent rise in overnight stays, according to data released by the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT) this week. Accounting for the majority of arrivals and stays at hotels, accommodation facilities, campsites and short-stay units (rooms to let) were foreign travelers. More specifically, the number of arrivals increased by 86.9 percent and overnight stays by 89.3 percent. At the same time, arrivals by domestic travelers rose by 47 percent and overnight stays by 41.7 percent. Source: ELSTAT Total occupancy at hotels (excluding campgrounds and short-stay units) reached 51.1 percent compared to 42.9 percent in 2021 with hotel-style accommodation facilities accounting for the largest share of arrivals (79.2 percent) and overnight stays (76.8 percent). According to ELSTAT monthly data, 59.1 percent of arrivals and 66 percent of overnight stays at hotels, campgrounds, and short-stay accommodation establishments in 2022 were concentrated in the months of July, August, September and October. Source: ELSTAT Winning regions based on arrivals were the South Aegean (+72.4 percent arrivals / +81.7 percent overnight stays), Crete (+74.1 percent arrivals / +78.2 percent in overnight stays), Attica (+89.8 percent arrivals / +90 percent overnight stays), and Central Macedonia (+78.8 percent arrivals / +83 percent overnight stays). International travelers accounted for 73.5 percent of all arrivals and 84 percent of total overnighters. Source: ELSTAT Key source markets in 2022 for the said hospitality services providers were: Europeans, accounting for 83.9 percent of arrivals and 91 percent of overnight stays – Germans (14.9 percent arrivals / 18.7 percent overnight stays), and the French (7.8 percent arrivals / 6.7 percent overnight stays) – Brits (16 percent arrivals / 18.8 percent overnight stays) and Americans (155.7 percent arrivals and 154.3 percent overnights).
