The Greek passport continues to retain its strength ranked 7th among the world’s most powerful passports on the Henley Passport Index.

Based on the official data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA), Singapore is home to the most powerful passport in the world allowing its holders to visit 192 travel destinations out of 227 around the world visa-free.

The Greek passport remains steady in 7th spot in 2023, the same as in 2022, enabling visa-free access to 185 world destinations. In 2021, the Greek passport ranked 8th on the Henley Passport Index.

According to the index, these are the world’s Top 10 most powerful passports: Singapore providing visa-free access to 192 destinations; followed in second place by Germany, Italy and Spain (visa-free access to 192 destinations); and in third spot Austria, Finland, France, Japan, Luxembourg, South Korea and Sweden (189 territories).

Completing the world’s Top 10 most powerful passports are those from Denmark, Ireland, Netherlands, the UK (188 destinations); Belgium, Czech Republic, Malta, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, and Switzerland (187); Australia, Hungary, Poland (186); in 7th spot Greece and Canada (185); Lithuania, US (184); Latvia, Slovakia, Slovenia (183); and lastly, Estonia and Iceland (182).

In the meantime, the once all-time powerful US passport has seen the smallest increase in its score over the past decade.

The passports with the least clout in 2023 enabling visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to 30 or fewer countries are: Syria (30 destinations), Iraq (29), and Afghanistan (27).

“A strong passport also provides significant financial freedoms in terms of international investment and business opportunities. Global connectivity and access have become indispensable features of wealth creation and preservation, and its value will only grow as geopolitical volatility and regional instability increase,” said Christian H Kaelin, chairman of Henley & Partners and the inventor of the passport index concept.
