According to an amendment to a finance ministry bill tabled over the weekend, workers at businesses affected by the fires on Rhodes as well as in other areas countrywide will be eligible for a 534-euro subsidy. Additionally, employers impacted by the fires will be able to suspend employee contracts for a period of three months (furlough scheme). “Businesses that have been affected by fires and are unable to operate, will be able to place their employees on furlough for up to three months. The employees will receive 534 euros per month in an emergency allowance from the state,” he said. The support measure was first introduced during Covid-19 lockdowns.
