Greek Culture Minister Lina Mendoni and Japanese Ambassador to Greece Yasunori Nakayama recently discussed plans for the launch of the Greece-Japan Year of Culture and Tourism in 2024. A joint initiative agreed by the governments of both countries, the “Year of Culture and Tourism” aims to promote cultural and tourism exchanges between Greece and Japan through a series of events. Scheduled to take place in both countries, events include archaeological exhibitions, film festivals, theater performances, concerts, and culinary showcase and workshops. According to Mendoni and Nakayama, the Greece-Japan Year of Culture and Tourism events will further enhance the cultural ties between the two countries and strengthen their bilateral relations. During their meeting, Mendoni and Nakayama discussed details involving the events and talked about the facilities that each country can provide. More specifically, they discussed the possibility of bringing the exhibition “Legacies of Beauty : Archaeological Treasures from Japan“, currently on display at the Archaeological Museum of Heraklion, to Athens. The exhibition is a return visit to the Greek exhibition “A Journey to the Land of Immortals – 4,000 Years of Greek Treasures“, which has been touring cities in Japan. The Culture Minister and the Japanese Ambassador agreed to maintain a close collaboration in the coming period to ensure the success of the “Greece-Japan Year of Culture and Tourism 2024” initiative. The Greece-Japan Year of Culture and Tourism 2024 initiative was announced by both countries during Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis’ visit to Japan last January.
