UK and international foodies had the opportunity to taste Attica’s unique culinary offerings during the 2023 National Geographic Traveller Food Festival held in London last month. Participating in the festival with its own stand, the Region of Attica introduced a variety of local products, including yogurt, figs, honey, feta cheese, pistachios, herbs and wine. During the festival, visitors to Attica’s stand were treated to a cooking demonstration by renowned chefs Artemisia Beblidaki and Nikolaos Daoutis. The two chefs prepared a dish of fried shrimps in cheese using fresh, local ingredients, during their “Flavours of Attica” masterclass held at the Business Design Centre’s Saffron Theatre. According to Attica Governor George Patoulis, the region’s participation in the festival was part of a focused strategy to promote Attica as a thematic tourism destination. “The international promotion of Attica and the strengthening of thematic tourism forms, such as gastronomy, require steady and dynamic steps,” he said. In an announcement, the Region of Attica deemed its participation in the NatGeo Festival as a big success. “The region’s successful participation in the festival is a testament to the quality of the area’s produce and the creativity of its chefs,” the announcement read. This year’s National Geographic Traveller Food Festival had over 65 exhibitors and 8,000 visitors attending. The festival also featured a number of other activities, including workshops, tastings, and talks by leading food experts. The event was organized by the National Geographic Traveller magazine, which is considered one of the most respected travel publications in the world. Among the Greek participations that stood out was that of the Thessaloniki Tourism Organization (TTO) and the Municipality of Thessaloniki. Through a joint stand, the organization and municipality promoted authentic flavors from Greece’s culinary capital.
