Cyprus Airways recently operated its first commercial flight with its new flagship aircraft, the Airbus A220. The flight, CY310, departed earlier this week from Larnaca International Airport and arrived in Athens, Greece, the most popular destination on the airline’s network. The A220 is a new generation aircraft that offers significant environmental advantages over previous models. It has a 25 percent reduction in CO2 emissions per seat, a 50 percent reduction in NOx emissions, and a 50 percent smaller noise footprint area. Cyprus Airways CEO Paul Sies said that the A220 “will shape Cyprus Airways’ new standard of customer experience.” He added that the aircraft “offers the best balance between passenger comfort, operational efficiency and sustainability.” Photo source: Cyprus Airways. Chief Commercial Officer Christos Limnatitis said that the A220 will offer passengers “unmatched comfort” with its large and quiet cabin, overhead stowage and the widest economy seats of any single aisle aircraft. The aircraft also boasts of large and panoramic windows and personal charging facilities amongst other amenities. The A220 is the first of two new aircraft that Cyprus Airways has ordered. The second aircraft is expected to be delivered in September. By early September, both aircraft will be fully integrated into the airline’s fleet and will be operating on most of its destinations.
