Visitors can find the ticket machines at the entrance to all the sites mentioned above, avoid the long waits at ticket offices and purchase their tickets with the use of credit card or smart phone. They receive their tickets on the spot. The project is a Cardlink initiative funded by Visa and overseen by the Hellenic Organization of Cultural Resources Development, and includes the gradual installation of 10 ticket vending machines at popular sites and museums across Greece. The new service is aimed at facilitating access and improving the visitor experience. To promote the use of the automated ticket machines, Visa will signpost the locations where the machines will be located and ensure that guests are informed of how they can conveniently issue their tickets. “With the installation of automatic ticketing machines, our commitment to improving the experience of visiting iconic archaeological sites in Greece is confirmed. This initiative comes a year after Visa’s agreement with the Greek Ministry of Tourism to provide data on tourism spending trends and just weeks after the successful delivery of the second project under the ‘Visa for Athens’ initiative,” said Nikos Petrakis, country manager at Visa Greece. Visitors can also purchase tickets online for more than 25 museums, monuments and archaeological sites in Greece from Hellenic Heritage e-ticket and from ticket booths.
