One of the seven emirates of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) federation, RAK is located at the eastern end of the Arabian Peninsula. Greece ranked as the 5th most popular holiday destinations for RAK residents for the next 12 months with a share of 17 percent. The Caribbean claimed the top spot with a 26 percent share, followed by France (25 percent ), Germany (20 percent ) and China (17 percent). According to the survey most respondents (20 percent) said they preferred beach holidays while an equal percentage expressed their desire to visit family and friends during their holidays. 19 percent of those asked said they preferred to indulge into an activity – filled holiday that included hiking, skiing or surfing. Other highlights of the Safarak survey: – Social media such as Instagram are a primary source of holiday inspiration with 61 percent of those asked actively using it for travel-related content. – Eighty-two percent of respondents valued sustainable destinations, while 84 percent expressed the importance of sustainable accommodations, and 78 percent prioritized sustainable activities during their holidays. – Respondents said they spend an average of approximately 7 hours on researching a destination before making their travel bookings. 40 percent book their holidays 21 to 28 days in advance while 41 percent prefer to book it online. Aimed to gain insight on the travel habits of RAK residents, Safarak’s survey had a specific focus on those aged 25 and above. The poll had 505 respondents and took place during June 2023.
