Spanish low-cost airline Volotea this summer achieved a very significant milestone at Athens International Airport (AIA), having now flown over two million passengers since the start of operations in the Greek capital in 2015.

According to Volotea, Athens Airport has been the cornerstone for the airline’s largest operations in Greece serving as its dedicated base with significant route opportunities. Volotea is offering more than 680,000 seats this year, considered a remarkable 33 percent increase compared to 2022.

“We’d like to thank our partners at Athens Airport and our exceptional team at our base for their support and collaboration in helping us reach this significant milestone and, in the future, as we continue to expand and connect even more passengers to Greece’s beauty and culture and help more and more Greeks discover new cities all over Europe,” the airline’s management said in an announcement.

This summer season, Volotea is operating a network of 17 destinations from Athens including three domestic routes, offering a total of 78 weekly departures (international and domestic).

Due to the attractiveness of Athens as a destination and Volotea’s successful operations, the airline decided to upgrade its Athens base to year-round, offering winter base operations for the first time (Winter 23/24).
