Acropolis, Athens.

The Greek Culture Ministry has launched a video campaign promoting Acropolis as a sustainable Greek heritage monument, ahead of a September 4 introduction of special visitor zones at the UNESCO World Heritage site.

Last month, Culture Minister Lina Mendoni had announced the implementation of a visitor zone system at the Acropolis, a decision that followed a Cultural Resources Management and Development Organization (ODAP) capacity study, according to which, the maximum daily number of visitors to the site cannot exceed 20,000.

The video campaign, created with the support of the Papastratos tobacco company, focuses οn informing the public about the new visitor system and runs in both Greek and English.

According to the video, those interested can visit the online digital platform hhticket.gr or download its new app, choose the time they wish to visit the monument and book their ticket. Visiting slots are currently between 60 and 90 minutes and they run from 8:00 to 20:00.

Acropolis was visited by a record breaking 800,000 people between January and April 2023, as recently published Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT) data indicate.

During the same period, almost 500,000 people visited the nearby Acropolis Museum almost double the number of visitors recorded during the same 2022 period, indicating the possibility that the museum may also have to implement a visitor zone system as local media report.
