Expedia: Paros on Top 10 Winter Island Destinations List for Aussie Travelers

The Greek island of Paros recently made its way on Expedia Australia’s list of the best and most sought-after winter island getaways for Australian travelers in 2023.

Expedia, a leading travel service provider, compiled the rankings by analyzing the interests of Australian travelers and assessing the quality of accommodations across various global locations.

According to the Expedia Island Index, Paros came in 8th on the list, with Fiji claiming the top spot, followed by Okinawa in Japan and Lombok in Indonesia. Kauai in Hawaii and Langkawi in Malaysia complete the top five rankings.

“Fiji’s top position on the Expedia Island Index comes as no surprise, given its growing popularity among Aussie travelers. However, for those seeking inspiration beyond the usual choices, other destinations offer equally exciting options,” said Managing Director of Expedia Brands Daniel Finch.

The inclusion of Paros on the list reflects the growing travel resurgence experienced by islands worldwide. Recent data reveals a significant increase in searches for accommodations on islands included on the list, with an average surge of 315 percent over the past year. This trend underscores the enduring appeal of islands as favored holiday destinations.

Furthermore, Expedia Australia’s findings highlighted a strong interest among Australians in seeking out vacations that involve minimal planned activities, with approximately 83 percent of Aussies expressing a desire for a more relaxed holiday experience. In addition, 74 percent of Australian travelers said that they were considering international destinations for their getaways.

“Whether it’s driven by cost considerations or a growing desire to unwind and rejuvenate, Australians are embracing overseas getaways that prioritize relaxation above all else,” Finch added.
