Greek Tourism Minister Olga Kefalogianni on Tuesday outlined her top three priorities for the country’s tourism industry.

Attending a board meeting of the Greek Tourism Confederation (SETE), Kefalogianni referred to the positive course of Greek tourism for this year, with the increase recorded both in relation to 2022 as well as 2019.

While discussing with SETE’s president, Yiannis Paraschis, and board members, Kefalogianni was optimistic on establishing Greece as a globally attractive destination with a tourism season that will go beyond the few summer months and expand for a longer time. During the meeting she gave SETE members an update on the upcoming regulation of short-term rentals, the pending special zoning plan for tourism and aviation issues.

The minister also touched on major challenges for the sector’s future such as dealing with climate change, overtourism, the increased need to strengthen inspections to ensure legality in the sector, critical labor issues and the intense competition from neighboring countries that is returning.

Minister sets key goals for Greek tourism

Kefalogianni set the following three goals in order for Greek tourism to be able to respond to today’s modern challenges:

– Achieving sustainable tourism development by completing the interconnection of Greek destinations and encouraging the dispersion of tourists in all the 13 regions.

– Enriching and diversifying the tourism product by highlighting new products, experiences and destinations.

– Strengthening the image and identity of the Greek tourism product in the international market.

Moreover, the minister highlighted the importance of developing a joint approach between the Tourism Ministry and SETE, focusing on a strong, competitive and sustainable tourism.

She stressed that the ministry’s vision sees a sustainable and long-term development of Greek tourism, which will give the maximum to the Greek economy and society. She called on SETE’s members to contribute with their cooperation to the common aim.
