Prespes in Western Macedonia Gets New Tourism Logo

The Prespes Lakes destination in Western Macedonia has a new tourism logo, following an open public consultation addressed to populations in Greece and abroad.

The consultation process, which saw an open-to-all vote on social media channels and through targeted emails, was accompanied by a comprehensive report on the key features of the destination and the results of a relative study.

The new logo, chosen by 34 percent of participating voters, is a modern, dynamic design that visualizes important elements of the Prespes region, such as its two lakes, and its emblematic wetland bird: the Dalmatian pelican. It is also trilingual, with versions in Greek, English and the official language of the Republic of North Macedonia.

The logo was designed as part of the BorPres project of the Interreg IPA CBC Greece – Republic of North Macedonia program and will also be used on all tourism marketing materials for the region, helping to raise awareness of its potential.

The BorPres project, which aims to improve the tourism offer in the Prespes region and increase the destination’s competitiveness, is the first stage of an integrated planning for the opening of the border crossing point in Prespes.

The Prespes Lakes Natural Park, nestled within the Lesser and Great Prespa lakes and their surrounding mountains, boasts over 50 percent of Greece’s biodiversity.

This natural paradise houses a remarkable variety of wildlife, including over half of Greece’s bird, amphibian, and mammal species, along with nine endemic fish species out of 23 total.

More specifically, this 327-square-kilometer area hosts 261 bird species, 61 mammals, 22 reptiles, 11 amphibians, 23 freshwater fish, and 1,500 plant species, making it ecologically invaluable.

Additionally, it’s the global hub for the Dalmatian pelican, with the largest colony of approximately 15,200 pairs residing in the Lesser Prespa.
