In an announcement on Friday, the Federation of Hellenic Associations of Tourist & Travel Agencies (fedHATTA) said the developments of Storm Daniel is affecting many tourism destinations in the country, having caused serious problems in the service of tourists. In a letter to relevant ministries, FedHATTA expressed its concern regarding the timely transportation of tourists to areas not affected by the weather or to the country’s airports in order for them to return in their countries. According to the federation, the timing of the floods is “unfortunate” after a season that has been the focus of devastating fires on Rhodes and other tourism destinations, leading to cancellations. “Following the fires of July and August, and the designation of areas as ‘fire affected’, this latest disaster has brought mass cancellations of tour groups extending well into the end of the summer season,” FedHATTA President Lyssandros Tsilides said in the announcement. The federation called on the state to intervene with special regulations including the suspension of obligations of the tourist businesses in affected areas until June 2024.
