‘Heraklion-Gastronomy Days 2023’ Food Festival Opens on Crete

The 5th Gastronomy and Cultural festival “Heraklion – Gastronomy Days 2023” opened on Thursday at the historic Venetian Harbor of Heraklion, Crete.

Co-organized by the Municipality of Heraklion, the Heraklion Development Organization, and the Heraklion Port Authority, the festival aims to highlight Heraklion as a distinctive gastronomy destination and honor the rich culinary heritage of Crete.

Running until Sunday, September 24, the four-day celebration will take Greek and international visitors on an culinary journey through the ancient Cretan culinary landscape, accompanied by a wide array of parallel events.

Held under the auspices of the Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO), the festival’s events will include demonstrations of traditional and contemporary recipes by esteemed chefs, presentations of local delicacies by local associations, and live performances by popular artists and musical groups.

“The Cretan diet is renowned worldwide as a model of nutrition that promotes longevity and well-being,” the GNTO said in an announcement promoting the event.

“It stands as a shining example of the Mediterranean diet, celebrated for its centuries-old culinary traditions rich in aromas, flavors, and cooking techniques.”
