The fourth edition of the cultural program “The Stones Speak” will wrap up with its final event on Sunday, September 24, at 6pm, at Plato’s Academy in Athens.

As the edition draws to a close, the program promises to provide visitors with a unique opportunity to come closer to ancient Greek philosophy, in one of its birthplaces.

Launched in 2017 by the Athens-Attica & Argosaronic Hotel Association, the “The Stones Speak” program aims to introduce the literary works of ancient Greek writers to both residents and visitors through unique theatrical performances.

The performances, presented in Modern Greek, French, and English, offer an engaging exploration of philosophical themes such as love, life, and democracy. Texts from renowned ancient Greek authors, including Homer’s Odyssey and Sophocles’ Antigone, serve as the foundation for these thought-provoking presentations.

The brainchild of Greek director Efi Theodorou, composer Nikos Platanos, and performed by students from the Delos Drama School, “The Stones Speak” program has earned recognition and support from many organizations, including the Tourism Ministry, the Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO), the Region of Attica, the Municipality of Athens, and the Hellenic Hotels Chamber.

The journey of this year’s program commenced in June at the National Archaeological Museum and featured a special presentation at the Athens International Airport. Subsequently, the second cycle unfolded in July at the archaeological site of Hadrian’s Library in the heart of Athens with the third cycle taking place at the Ancient Agora of Athens and its Stoa Of Attalos, the archaeological site’s museum, earlier this month.

As the fourth edition comes to an end at Plato’s Academy, it continues to honor the timeless wisdom of ancient Greece, ensuring its enduring legacy.

Plato’s Academy, established around 387 BC by the renowned philosopher Plato himself, is a place of profound historical significance. Located in the Akadimia neighborhood, a western suburb of Athens, this institution is hailed as the most renowned of ancient Athens’ philosophical schools. It is often recognized as the world’s first university and is considered the cradle of Western civilization’s philosophical thought.

The “The Stones Speak” performances are free for the public.
