Greece and Egypt have announced plans to strengthen their bilateral cultural relations through a number of actions, which include jointly organizing the Egyptian Cultural Week in Athens in 2024, according to the Greek Culture Ministry.

The announcement followed a recent meeting in Athens between Greek Culture Minister Lina Mendoni and Egypt’s Ambassador to Greece Omar Amer Youssef.

Expected to be a major event that will showcase the rich and diverse culture of Egypt, the Egyptian Cultural Week in Athens will include a variety of activities, such as art exhibitions, concerts, dance performances, and film screenings.

According to the ministry, with Egypt being one of the oldest civilizations in the world, next year’s event will provide an opportunity for Greeks to experience the best of Egyptian culture.

Moreover, during the meeting in Athens, Ambassador Youssef invited Minister Mendoni to Egypt for the opening of the newly renovated Museum of Greco-Roman Civilization in Alexandria in early October.

The ambassador also extended an invitation for her to attend the inauguration of the new Archaeological Museum in Cairo in early 2024.

On her part, the Greek culture minister pledged to visit Egypt soon to meet her Egyptian counterpart, Nevine Al-Kilani, for further discussions.

She also thanked the ambassador for Egypt’s crucial support to help get Zagori listed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

According to the Greek culture ministry, Greece and Egypt place high importance on safeguarding their cultural heritage from illegal trafficking.

The two countries are also to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) as part of their trilateral cooperation with Cyprus in anticipation of a joint summit in 2023.
