Photo source: WTA. Greece won multiple honors at the World Travel Awards European Gala Ceremony 2023 that unveiled the continent’s hottest brands and travel products in Batumi, Georgia. Held on Friday, the red carpet event marked the third leg of the WTA’s landmark 30th anniversary Grand Tour 2023 – a global search for the finest travel and tourism organisations. “Our winners represent stellar examples of tourism excellence, and I congratulate each and every one for helping to raise the collective benchmark to even greater heights,” said WTA Founder Graham Cooke. Established in 1993, the World Travel Awards brand is recognized worldwide as a hallmark of quality with its honorees setting a high bar of innovation, excellence, and best practice in the industry. The 30th edition of the prestigious tourism industry awards honored Athens as Europe’s Leading Cultural City Destination and Mani in the Peloponnese as Greece’s Leading Mainland Destination 2023. A number of Greek hotels in various categories and Greek travel and tourism companies also received top honors. Highlights for Greece also included the double European distinctions of Domes Noruz Kassandra in the categories of Leading Beach Resort and Leading New Resort in Europe for 2023; of Calilo in the categories of Leading Design Hotel and Leading Lifestyle Hotel; and of Grand Resort Lagonissi in the categories of Leading Conference Resort and Leading Luxury Island Resort. Madeira also made it onto the winner’s podium after picking up Europe’s Leading Island Destination. Spain’s adrenaline capital Huesca La Magia was named Europe’s Leading Adventure Tourism Destination, putting the city in Aragon at Europe’s top table. In the hospitality sector, Istanbul’s Çırağan Palace Kempinski was voted Europe’s Leading Hotel, whilst Sardinia’s Forte Village took Europe’s Leading Resort. In the aviation sector, Air France was named Europe’s Leading Airline, whilst Zurich Airport was voted Europe’s Leading Airport.
