September 2023 was the “all-time best September” in terms of tourist arrivals, according to Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO) Secretary General Dimitris Fragakis, who is in Paris this week accompanying Tourism Minister Olga Kefalogianni to the IFTM Top Resa 2023. Citing recent Central Bank data, Fragakis said he was expecting 2023 to be a new record year for Greek tourism. He said travel receipts had increased by about 15 percent compared to pre-Covid 2019 levels and arrivals by approximately 13 percent in the first half of 2023. “September ended quite well. It was one of the best Septembers of all time,” he said to state broadcaster ERT, adding that market data indicated an ongoing demand for October. Meanwhile, during his visit to Paris, Fragakis met with airline executives and tour operators and the messages are “exceptionally good”, he said, adding that he expected occupancy levels to remain high at several destinations across the country in October. The Greek Tourism Ministry delegation also met with French tourism stakeholders to discuss 2024 actions. Fragakis was scheduled to meet Michelin Guide associates to discuss further expanding the cooperation. Kefalogianni presented the first edition of the Michelin Guide Athens in the Greek capital last week.
