Alternate Economy Minister Nikos Papathanasis and Culture Minister Lina Mendoni recently announced that 29.5 million euros in recovery funds would be channeled into actions aimed at enhancing the visitor experience at Greek museums, sites and monuments.

The project will develop digital interactive services and content to improve the visitor experience at archaeological sites, museums, monuments and historic sites with the use of innovative technologies and open systems and will be implemented by the Greek Culture Ministry and overseen by the Hellenic Organization of Cultural Resources Development.

Upgrading the e-ticketing systems for a total of 100 sites across Greece is a top priority. Currently only 28 sites offer online ticketing options. Under the plan, new digital services and applications will also be added to the e-system which will provide museum and site visitors with interactive tools to enhance their experience.

“Following today’s agreement, the electronic ticket system will be expanded to 72 more archaeological sites, while innovative interactive tools will be introduced offering personalized information to visitors,” said Mendoni. The minister went on to add that the funds will also improve accessibility to the sites and boost traffic and revenues, which will in turn be redirected into cultural projects and actions.

“The government is implementing projects that improve the daily life of citizens, strengthen the country’s international image and create surplus value through the use of technology and digital tools in culture,” said Papathanasis.
