The Region of Western Greece will carry out a series of renovations and upgrade projects to cultural monuments under the “Western Greece 2021-2027” NSRF program and with a total budget of 5.89 million euros. The projects were announced by Regional Governor Nektarios Farmakis during Culture Minister Lina Mendoni’s visit in the region to inaugurate the opening of a restored portion of the Patras Roman stadium site. “History and culture are two of the most valuable assets of Western Greece and we are always very pleased when, through the resources managed by the Region, the cultural and economic footprint of our country is expanded,” the governor said. The projects with approved funding include: The restoration of the surrounding area of the Historic Episcopal Building in Messolonghi – With a budget of 1,750,000 euros, the project will breathe new life into a listed building dating back to 1928. The upgrade of the Holy Monastery of the Theotokos Myrtia at Aitoloakarnania – The project, with a budget of 2,300,000 euros, aims to restore and secure the monastery complex, preserving its rich heritage. The structural restoration of the Holy Church of St. John the Baptist of Schina – With a budget of 685,000 euros, the project focuses on repairing cracks, reconstructing the outer masonry layer, and strengthening the foundations of the church. The restoration of the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary Dafniotissa D. Elis – With a budget of 552,160 euros, the project includes masonry works and the construction of a new bell tower. The landscaping and lighting of the Roman Odeon of Patras – With a budget of 610,000 euros, the project will continue the restoration of the monument’s surroundings, making it suitable for cultural events. According to the Region of Western Greece, the announced cultural projects are the first in a wave of initiatives under the new NSRF Program, encompassing all three regional units of Western Greece.
