Greek tourism associations announced his week the launch of a new gastro-tourism label that will ‘brand’ sustainable products and services offered at destinations across Greece with the aim of supporting local communities. The “Local & Branded” (Topika & Eponyma) pilot project is an initiative of the Hellenic Hoteliers Federation (POX), the Greek Federation of Hotel Managers (PODIX), and the We Do Local certification and managed by the Authentic Greece network. The aim of the Greek.food.tour label is to brand specific products and services and link these with hotels, restaurants and tour agencies in Greece and abroad. “In a new era when tourism is in great need of authenticity, sustainability and value-added services, the purpose of the new label is for visitors to select Greek destinations to have a comprehensive experience, tasting local products with a label of origin but also participating in gastronomic tourism experiences through organized and certified activities offered by certified providers,” said Greek.food.tour in a statement. The label certifies activities such as tastings, cooking classes, visits to producers, businesses, and destinations and aims to develop an integrated and certified tourism product. Supported by hotelier and tourism associations across Greece, the program will in the next phase offer Β2Β booking tools to certified members. “We support synergies that enhance the country’s tourism profile and reposition Greece on the world map of destinations by tapping into Greek nutrition, health and quality of life in a new environment of tough competition,” said the outgoing general secretary of the Hellenic Hoteliers Federation, Manolis Tsakalakis.
