Greece’s 14 regional airports hit a new record high in the January-September period handling a total of 29.24 million passengers and exceeding both pre-Covid 2019 and 2022 figures. More specifically, the country’s 14 regional airports managed by Fraport Greece marked an 8.3 percent rise compared to the nine-month period last year to 27 million passengers and an 11.6 percent increase over pre-Covid 2019, when 26.2 million people visited. At the same time, September arrival data through Greece’s regional airports, which include some on popular destinations such as Mykonos, Santorini, and Corfu, reached 5.13 million marking a 7.2 percent rise over September 2022 and a 15 percent increase compared to 4.46 million recorded in 2019. Of the 14 regional airports, Thessaloniki airport marked the best nine-month performance welcoming 5.46 million arrivals up from 4.55 million in the year-ago period or up by 20 percent and by 0.9 percent over January-September 2019. Santorini airport welcomed 2.4 million passengers in the nine months to September, down by 0.1 percent over the same period in 2022 and international traffic was also down by 10.1 percent. Passenger traffic on Mykonos in the nine months came to 1.53 million, down by 2.4 percent over last year. On the upside, the airports of Rhodes, Chania, and Corfu continued their upward trends in the nine months under review, handling 5.29 million, 3.15 million and 3.67 million arrivals, respectively.
