EL AL, the Israeli flag carrier, recently released updates related to its ticket refund and cancellation policies amid the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict. According to the airline, customers with tickets for flights scheduled until October 28, 2023, have the option to cancel their flight tickets without incurring any costs and will receive a credit voucher in return (except for award tickets). Furthermore, passengers who wish to change their tickets for a flight departing until October 28, 2023, can do so as long as the new ticket is within the same cabin and geographical area (flights up to 3 hours, flights over 3 hours and up to 6 hours, and flights over 6 hours) without incurring a “change of Reservation” fee or paying any price differences, if applicable. EL AL ticket holders can also change their tickets for a flight departing after October 28, 2023, with no “change of Reservation” fee, but any price differences, if applicable, will be applied. No refund will be granted for changing to a cheaper flight. Photo source: Wikimedia. Additionally, the company will allow the option to freeze a flight reservation. These same rules will also apply to ticket holders for flights scheduled between October 29 and November 30, 2023. The change in policy comes as the Israeli parliament (Knesset) intends to grant a 5 billion dollar state-backed guarantee that will enable EL AL, Arkia, and Israir to obtain wartime insurance policies and maintain their fleets in the skies, despite widespread service suspensions to Israel, as reported by the Times of Israel.
