Elafonisos in the Peloponnese has been selected as one of the top 20 European summer destinations for 2024 by Italian travel magazine The Wom Travel. The magazine’s editors ranked Elafonisos second on the list, praising its “exotic island appearance” that “spans only 19 square kilometers and can be described as an elongated paradise strip”. Wom Travel’s journalists suggest the destination for travelers that want to “escape modernity this summer and bask in beautiful beaches, simply pack a beach towel, sunscreen, and a hat. Anticipate long stretches of white sand, dunes surrounded by cedars, turquoise waters, and clear blue skies: Elafonisos is a breathtaking paradise devoid of crowds that will leave an indelible memory.” The Italian tourist market is one of Elafonisos’ primary source markets. Since 2021, the Elafonisos Municipality has been promoting the region in Italy through an online workshop titled “Welcome to Greece” (Benvenuti in Grecia), organized by the Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO) Milan branch, along with a series of virtual meetings with Italian tourism professionals and journalists. Wom Travel’s mention is part of a series of accolades from various Italian media outlets for Elafonisos, including the online newspaper Investireoggi.it, Dove magazine, and others. It’s worth noting that the travel magazine’s top 20 list also features Stoupa, in the Peloponnese, and includes several mentions of other Greek destinations like Thessaloniki, Athens, Corfu, Santorini, Kos, Limnos, and Milos, all praised for their diverse offerings and affordable travel packages.
