A new tourism investment in central Athens to be implemented by Radisson Hotel Group was approved this week by the Central Council for Modern Monuments. Plans concern the Radisson RED Mitropoleos Square Athens, the group’s first Radisson RED property in Greece to be carried out in cooperation with Gnosis Investment, an Israeli-interest company which will invest 30 million euros in the project. Once completed, the 112-room Radisson RED Mitropoleos Square Athens, to be located in the heart of the historic center, will include meeting and fitness space, all-day dining, natural living spaces, bar, open-space lounge area and a unique dining experience to be designed by Greek celebrity chef Akis Petretzikis. The hotel is scheduled to open by the end of 2024. Greece’s Central Council for Modern Monuments approved the plan which will include the restoration of an architectural landmark built in the 1930s. The council has now set conditions including preserving the building’s interior and exterior designs before building activities can begin. “It’s another important step in our journey on which we humbly try to upgrade the real estate of our beloved city and always acknowledge its history and our roots,” said Petros Politis, co-owner and CEO Gnosis investments. Radisson RED Mitropoleos Square Athens will be Radisson Hotel Group’s third property in the Greek capital in addition to the Radisson Blu Park Hotel Athens and the The Social Athens Hotel, a member of Radisson Individuals. Radisson has also announced the opening of another on Theatrou Square, which will then bring the number of its hotels in the Greek capital to four.
