TTO Hosting Europe’s Largest LGBT+ Runners Association at Thessaloniki Night Half Marathon

The Thessaloniki Tourism Organization (TTO) will host the largest European club for LGBT+ runners and walkers, the London Front Runners, in this year’s highly anticipated Night Half Marathon event to take place on Saturday, October 21.

The tourism organization has extended a warm welcome to 120 members from the London Front Runners who will be participating in the race.

The TTO President, Voula Patoulidou, affirmed the city’s commitment to inclusivity and solidarity, stating that “in times of war, Thessaloniki stands in solidarity. The Half Marathon’s  high registration rate confirms the importance of people joining actions that foster teamwork, and peace. Participants are Thessaloniki’s ambassadors for the promotion of the city in Greece and worldwide.”

London Front Runners is an inclusive running and triathlon club, embracing individuals of all sexual orientations and gender identities, as well as their allies. Founded in 1995, the club is part of the International Front Runners network, a global network of LGBT+ running clubs. With over 500 members, the club welcomes individuals of all fitness levels, from recreational joggers to competitive road and cross-country athletes.

The 11th Thessaloniki International Night Half Marathon is one of the city’s largest sporting events, attracting significant attention. This year’s event boasts twice as many participants compared to the previous year, with an impressive total of 18,000 runners of all ages converging on the streets of Thessaloniki. The starting point for the Half Marathon will be Eleftherias Square, commencing at 7:30 pm.

The event offers various categories, including the Health and Dynamic Walking 10,000 meters, beginning at 6 pm from the White Tower, and the Health and Dynamic Walking 5,000, starting at 9:30 pm from the Town Hall. Additionally, the One Mile Road for social contribution will kick off at 6:05 pm from Admiral Kountouriotou Street (TPA Gate). Parallel events of special interest will include the 2nd International Night Chess Marathon and the Street Half Marathon Night Party on Saturday evening.
