Wine enthusiasts are gearing up for a unique event as the Winemakers of Crete will present the Cretan Wine Exhibition “OiNotika” for the sixth consecutive year in Athens. The annual rendezvous with the capital’s public will take place on October 30 at the Athenaeum InterContinental Hotel. According to the organizer, the event this year promises to be a grand celebration of Cretan winemaking, with 30 wineries from various corners of Crete converging to showcase their unique offerings. A total of 11 indigenous grape varieties, 7 PDO (Protected Designation of Origin), and 6 PGI (Protected Geographical Indication) zones will be represented, inviting visitors to experience the rich aromas and flavors of Cretan wines. The spotlight will be on Vidianos, Liatiko, Romeikos, Vilana, and numerous other ambassadors of the Cretan vineyard. According to the Winemakers of Crete, wine lovers will have the opportunity to explore over 300 labels and indulge in tastings that capture the essence of Crete’s terroir. OiNotika. Promotional activities Aiming to promote Cretan wines to a wider audience, the island’s wineries this year carried out a series of promotional and advertising initiatives both in Greece and abroad. Participating in Greek and international wine exhibitions, such as PROWEIN, London Wine Fair and Oenorama, the Cretan wineries have effectively showcased the exceptional quality of Cretan wine to a global audience, including Greek wine professionals and enthusiasts. Moreover, the successful Cretan “OiNotika” wine exhibitions continue to attract local audiences on Crete, including Heraklion and Chania, as well as Cyprus, drawing a significant response from both wine professionals and connoisseurs. A notable highlight in 2023 was the collaboration between Cretan wineries and the Archaeological Museum of Heraklion for the “Vineyard” event. The event gave visitors the chance to embark on a unique journey through 23 wine exhibits in the museum’s “Wine Roads”. Moreover, Cretan wineries this year also held familiarization trips for wine experts and journalists from the United States and the United Kingdom to give them the opportunity to explore Crete, visit wineries, vineyards and cultural heritage sites. The “OiNotika 2023” exhibition will be open to the public from 11:00 to 20:00. Advance tickets are available at a reduced price of 8 euros for purchases made before October 24, and 10 euros for those purchased from October 25 to 30. University students, upon presentation of their student IDs at the entrance, can obtain tickets for 6 euros.
