Published as part of the newspaper’s 2024 travel catalogue, the article on the Greek isles praises their diversity and the experiences they offer. “Mykonos and Santorini may be the obvious stars of the show, but the scattered isles of Greece play host to plenty of other headline acts. From the Cyclades to the Dodecanese and across to the Ionian, each and every island group has standout attractions that put it on any must-visit list. The secret to their unfailing appeal is diversity,” said The Times’ destination expert, James Litston. Kos, Greece. Photo source: Unsplash. Following Skiathos with its “forest-backed beaches” on the list was Kos. Praised for its 180-mile coastline, the third-largest Dodecanese island secured the runner-up spot for its “seaside appeal,” rich history, and its local tavernas. At number three, Ios was proposed by Litston for both its “reputation for youthful, all-summer-long partying” and also for the quieter, sophisticated experiences it offers. The Times proposed Evia as one of the best Greek islands for its “authentically Greek” vibe, hiking, and wellness tourism offerings while Crete was hailed as a destination that “ticks every box.” Popular Greek destinations like Corfu, Rhodes, Mykonos, Lefkada, and Santorini make up the top 10, with car-free Hydra, Skopelos, Kefalonia, Symi, and Zakynthos securing the last five spots on the list.
