According to GMA’s re-elected president, Stavros Katsikadis, the new board’s main objective is to highlight the institutional and consultative role of the association. “Our vision is to underline the contribution and value of marinas to the Greek economy and their rightful place in the international tourism market,” he said in his acceptance speech. During the GMA General Assembly, Greek Secretary General of Tourism Policy and Development Myronas Flouris underlined the need to strengthen the collaboration between the GMA and the Tourism Ministry covering two main areas: the creation of a new sustainable development strategy for marinas and the simplification of the legislative procedure for marina licensing. He also informed GMA members that RRF funding will soon be officially announced, according to which 139 million euros will be allocated to marinas, with eligible costs mainly related to green and digital development, as well as accessibility. The Greek Marina Association currently consists of 23 tourist ports/marinas with a total of 8,600 berths for pleasure boats, representing approximately 77 percent of the organized berths in Greece. It was established in 2010 to represent the tourist marinas in Greece, secure their upgrading, development and promotion in Greece and abroad, as well as to support the study and handling of issues related to the creation and operation of tourist marinas.
