Photo source: Visit Greece Ikaria, a small Greek island in the North Aegean Sea, has been ranked 7th as one of the best value destinations in the world by the renowned travel guide “Lonely Planet” in their “Best in Travel 2024” edition. The editors of the guide praised Ikaria’s “unusual and appealing” character, noting its distinct geography, independent culture, active nightlife, and lively festivals. They also highlighted its affordability, making it a great option for travelers on a budget. Ikaria is known for its wooded canyons, rocky lunar vistas, and secluded beaches with turquoise waters. It is also home to a unique culture, with many of the island’s inhabitants living in rock-like homes. It lists 50 destinations to visit in the coming year, including regions on the rise, often overlooked spots, and revamped takes on well-known places. The team of experts who compiled the list includes regular contributors to the guide and prominent members of the travel and tourism community. They handpicked the destinations based on a variety of factors, including their uniqueness, affordability, and sustainability. Each of the suggested places is presented in detail in the guide, including available options and instructions for accessing them. Lonely Planet is part of the Greek National Tourism Organization’s (GNTO) North America branch advertising efforts, which annually conducts targeted campaigns through Lonely Planet’s print publications, website, and social media.
