The Greek island of Santorini has been crowned as one of the world’s top sunset destinations by Instagram users, according to new research conducted by the travel experts at Titan Travel.

The study analyzed data from Instagram and TikTok to reveal the best sunset spots, as chosen by awe-inspired jet-setters.

Santorini ranked as the world’s second most photogenic sunset destination, with 157,745 Instagram posts. According to the research, the village of Oia, located to the north of the island, is the most popular spot for tourists to take their sunset snaps, with views overlooking the town’s blue-domed churches.

Santorini also ranked as the most viewed sunset spot on TikTok, with 70.2 million views on the platform. This was likely due to the island’s unique scenery, which provides an ideal backdrop for sunset photos and videos.

Other popular sunset destinations on Instagram included Bali, Indonesia (1st with 182,661 posts) and Ibiza, Spain (3rd – 120,982 posts), followed by Maui (4th) and San Diego (5th).

Data showed that the United States is home to the largest number of great sunset spots, claiming 4 places in the top 10 most photogenic destinations (Maui, San Diego, Key West & Seattle) and 3 places in the most viewed sunset destinations (Maui, San Diego & Key West again).

Finally, Paris, London and the Maldives, followed Santorini and Bali on the Most Viewed Sunset Spot on TikTok list.
