Hainzl and Wimmer, hosts of the popular 55-minute Sunday show Ambiente, are highly regarded in Austria, especially within academic circles. They are gearing up to air a special episode dedicated to Rhodes in the upcoming spring.

During their visit to the Dodecanese island, coordinated by the Greek National Tourism Organization’s (GNTO) Austrian branch, the Austrian presenters explored the city of Rhodes, including its medieval town and the Palace of the Grand Master. They delved into the historical significance of the Knights Hospitallers and gathered valuable information.

Furthermore, they met with Kostas Taraslias, the Deputy Mayor for Tourism, International, and Public Relations, who provided them with printed and digital material on the island’s medieval history.

Guided by German tour guide Stephen Bohlig, a member of the Association of Accredited Tour Guides of the Dodecanese, Hainzl and Wimmer deepened their knowledge of the Knights Hospitallers and the legendary Colossus of Rhodes. Their exploration extended beyond the city as they ventured into the natural beauty of Rhodes, including visits to Lindos, South Rhodes, and the Valley of the Butterflies.

Hainzl and Wimmer also had the opportunity to immerse themselves in the traditional way of life in various Rhodes villages. In Apollona, they witnessed the preparation of traditional dishes, explored the Bee Museum, learned about winemaking at Cava Wines Stafylos, and delved into olive oil production with Stavros Kallas of Natura Rodos. They even honed their skills in preparing traditional Rhodian dishes at the Paranga restaurant.

At the end of their trip, Wimmer expressed his admiration for the Rhodians’ deep-rooted traditions and commended the island’s resilience in bouncing back to normalcy after the devastating wildfires in July.
