Surveys, Trends & Stats Germany, UK Leading Sea & Sun Markets for Greece by GTP editing team 8 November 2023 written by GTP editing team 8 November 2023 0 comments Share 0FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 26 Photo: Antony Kitsopoulos The UK and Germany account for 44 percent of total spending and overnight stays in the sea & sun segment in Greece, according to data released by INSETE, the Greek Tourism Confederation’s (SETE) research body. More than 6 million inbound arrivals from the country’s key source markets generated a total of 8.11 billion euros in 2022 and accounted for 62.1 million overnight stays. According to INSETE’s latest study, last year the all-inclusive sea & sun segment accounted for το 47 percent of all sea & sun arrivals, 43 percent of overnight stays and 50 percent of spending. In total, the segment accounted for 7 million arrivals (of the 15.01 million), 61.2 million overnight stays (of 142.29 million), and 9.2 billion euros (of the 18.5 billion euros) in 2022. In the all-inclusive segment, travelers from the UK accounted for 1/5 of the total and 19 percent of spending compared to German travelers who accounted for 1/4 of all arrivals and 28 percent of spending. In the non-all-inclusive category, the UK market accounted for 22 percent of arrivals compared to 15 percent by the German market and 23 percent of overnight stays over Germany’s 20 percent. In the sea & sun segment, the German market accounted for 24 percent of the total or 4.47 billion euros while the UK market represented 20 percent or 3.64 billion euros. In the segment’s all-inclusive category, the Brits accounted for 1.34 million arrivals or 19 percent of the total and 19 percent of spending or 1.78 billion euros. Travelers from Germany, generated 2.56 billion euros or 28 percent of the total with arrivals reaching 1.76 million and overnight stays at 14.8 million or 24 percent of the total. In terms of length of stay, UK tourists in the sea & sun segment spent 117 euros on average per night compared to German travelers who spent on average 144 euros and 173 euros for all-inclusive products. According to INSETE, average spending per night stay for most markets comes to 130 euros. German travelers usually stay for 10.3 nights on average while Brits for 10.1 nights.
