Destinations news Athenian Riviera: Deal Paves Way for Creation of Bicycle Lane, Walkway by GTP editing team 27 November 2023 written by GTP editing team 27 November 2023 0 comments Share 0FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 28 A coastal pedestrian-bicycle lane from Kallithea to Voula along the Athenian Riviera is the next big project to be implemented after an agreement signed this week between the Region of Attica and the Hellenic Republic Asset Development Fund (HRADF). Outgoing Attica Regional Governor Giorgos Patoulis and HRADF acting CEO Panagiotis Balomenos signed the agreement which grants a total area of 46.891m2 for the construction, operation and maintenance of a 13.5km bicycle lane and pedestrian walkway for a period of 25 years valid on condition the project is implemented within five years from the signing of the contract. A total of 19.13 million euros in funding has already been secured for the project announced last year under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan “Greece 2.0”. The Attica Region will be responsible for the tender process and the Environment Ministry will allocate the funds. Patoulis said the agreement was an “important step” towards the implementation of the ambitious project along the Athenian Riviera that will bring added value to the region. It will improve the quality of life of the residents and showcase the area as an attractive destination for visitors,” he said. Dubbed “Athenian Riviera – Urban Walk”, the pedestrian walkway and bicycle path will extend from the Kallithea Municipality to the Vari – Voula – Vouliagmeni City Hall, spanning six municipalities – Kallithea, Palio Faliro, Alimos, Elliniko-Argyroupoli, Glyfada, and Vari – Voula – Vouliagmeni. The project is slated for completion by the end of 2025.
