The route was previously disrupted by damage caused during the storms “Daniel” and “Elias”. According to an announcement, only freight trains will operate on the railway axis until December 16 in order to decongest freight centers. From December 16, the Athens-Thessaloniki railway service will be fully restored with the launch of passenger trains. Moreover, within the first months of 2024, the final restoration work will also begin on both the main axis and the two other railway sections, Larissa – Volos and Paleofarsalos – Kalambaka, as well as the Pelion tourist line.
