Greece’s Economy & Finance Ministry announced this week that it had sanctioned funding to be channeled into the digitalization of the Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO).
Alternate Economy & Finance Minister Nikos Papathanasis approved the inclusion of the project into Greece’s National Recovery and Resilience Plan “Greece 2.0”.
Under the decision, a total of 10.1 million euros will go toward the development of the “My Digital Tourism” platform which will provide tourism information to users.
Among others, it will include a digital tourist map, a database listing all tourism services providers in Greece, and specialized information about tourist destinations across the country
The platform will be available as a mobile phone app and information provided in six languages.
Additionally funds will also cover the creation of an interactive digital tourism museum offering thematic routes and a system providing AI-generated real-time information in six languages.
The project will also include the tourism business and services providers registry of Greece.
According to the economy & finance ministry, the goal of the project is to boost competitiveness, strengthen entrepreneurship, attract investments, improve infrastructure, highlight cultural offerings and promote the image and special identity of each region.
The Tourism Ministry will oversee and be responsible for funding and the Technical Chamber of Greece for the project’s implementation.
Earlier this month, Secretary General for Tourism Policy and Development Myron Flouris confirmed that new technologies and innovations were being funded by RRF funds. Among these “six or seven platforms through which we will be able to inform tourists, collect information and draw accurate conclusions about tourism performance”.
