Experts from Washington, Brussels and Berlin met in Athens for the 10-year anniversary event of government relations and strategic communications firm effectus.

Addressing the “Businesses in the Era of Permacrisis: The Experts’ View” event, participants discussed issues affecting the decisions of governments and businesses in Greece, Europe and around the world during the current geopolitical situation.

Among others, Grégoire Poisson, head of Dentons Global Advisors, Brussels & Public Affairs EMEA, spoke about regulatory inflation while Jan Kallmorgen, founder and CEO of Berlin Global Advisors, referred to the return of the “big state” which limits the free operation of markets and international trade, but also creates new investment opportunities in the form of private-public partnerships.

Other topics addressed included the need to ensure Europe’s energy security and minimizing its dependence on Russian gas; the key role of alternative energy sources for the future; the elections worldwide scheduled for 2024 and their effects; the importance of businesses receiving accurate and timely information on world events and taking geopolitical and regulatory/legislative trends seriously into account when formulating their business plans; and the need for support of their positions in national and international decision-making centers.

“In the era of ‘evident uncertainty’ that we live in, we wanted through our anniversary event to highlight the necessity for dialogue between government and business, as well as for policy and business decisions which are based on knowledge, informed of global trends and supported by evidence and data in order for Greece to proceed boldly and optimistically on the path to sustainable development with benefits distributed to everyone,” said Managing Partner at effectus, Ioannis Kofinis.
