The Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Athens, one of the largest construction projects in Greece and Europe budgeted at 1 billion euros, is ready to begin after permits were issued this week.

The project, to go up as part of The Ellinikon project along the Athenian Riviera and to include a 5-star hotel, casino, exhibition center, Rock Spa, shops and recreational facilities, will be implemented by Greek firm GEK TERNA (49 percent share), which was awarded the 30-year concession for the development of the first Integrated Resort and Casino (IRC) in Greece in partnership with Hard Rock International (51 percent share).

Construction is expected to last three years with a scheduled date for the launch of operations of the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Athens at the end of 2026.

The managing company is aiming for the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Athens to become a popular international destination, offering visitors a mix of entertainment, fine dining, luxury accommodation, outdoor spaces, a world-class gaming floor, expo hall, ball rooms, meeting areas and support spaces, and high-end shopping.

The casino in Athens will be the newest addition to Hard Rock International’s portfolio, which includes venues in over 70 countries spanning 265 locations.

The final plans of the ambitious project will be presented by  GEK TERNA and Hard Rock International at a special ceremony this week.

While this may not be aesthetically pleasing to all, it will provide much needed jobs and revenue for the Greek economy.

Is this supposed to be good news? What an eye-sore! And what do the locals and residents have to say about it?

Why only a 5-Star hotel and not in addition a 4/3-Star hotel to receive a wider target audience, as there will be an exhibition and meeting area?
