Christmas Villages in 10 Athens neighborhoods are ready to welcome young and old and to create a festive mood in the city for the holidays.

The Christmas Villages in Athens will open to the public this Saturday (December 23) through to January 6 and admission is free.

Check out the Christmas action at the following Athens squares: Messolongiou in Pagrati, Heldreich in Neos Kosmos, Jacqueline de Romilly in Thissio, Agia Ekaterini in Kato Petralona, Athanasios Diakos in Thymarakia, Nathanael in Agios Eleftherios, Agios Andreas in Labrini, Agios Panteleimon, Agios Dimitrios (along Panormou Ave in Ambelokipi) and Penelope Delta in Ellinorosson.

In addition to photos with Santa Claus, kiddies will have the chance to participate in dozens of children’s activities, including workshops, puppet shows, face painting sessions, and play games with their favorite Christmas characters, jugglers and stilt walkers.

At the same time, Athens’ cultural venues, museums, libraries, squares, streets and neighborhoods will be filled with Christmas cheer with ongoing events, including bubble, puppet and magic shows, storytelling sessions and games with elves.

“Children’s smiles are the driving force behind everything we do! And this Christmas, Athens neighborhoods will be filled with games, art activities and performances, spreading joy to young and old. Our Christmas Villages have been set up on the city’s squares to bring us closer to the magical atmosphere of the holidays,” said Athens Mayor Kostas Bakoyannis.

In the meantime, the city lights are on, the Christmas tree is standing tall in central Syntagma Square and new venues, like the Maria Callas Museum, the Kypseli Market and the Athens Book Space are offering their share of holiday fun.

Athens Christmas Villages will be open daily from 11am to 2pm and from 3pm to 7.30pm and on New Year’s Eve (December 31) from 11am to 5pm.
