Merakos Greece is a trending international destination for Irish travelers this year, according to Airbnb’s 2024 travel predictions which see new international destinations appearing on the list of trending destinations. More specifically, according to the latest data by Airbnb on the top trending domestic and international destinations, Greece and Spain are leading the way as short-haul summer getaways for Irish travelers in 2024 thanks to their “sun-soaked landscapes”. In Greece, favorite holiday spots are Laganas on Zakynthos and Kos island. Other destinations winning the Irish over this year include Sweden, Poland, France, and Italy, thanks to their rich cultural heritage. Top long-haul destinations include Philadelphia in the US due to a significant Irish diaspora, there. According to Airbnb findings, Irish guests are looking for more immersive holiday experiences this year. The top trending international destinations in 2024 for the Irish market are: Laganas, Zakynthos, Greece Kos, Greece Warsaw, Poland Newcastle, United Kingdom Livigno, Lombardia, Italy Saint-Martin-de-Ré, Nouvelle-Aquitaine, France Puerto del Carmen, Canarias, Spain Stockholm, Sweden Palma, Illes Balears, Spain Philadelphia, US Birdseye view of the Greek island of Kos. According to the same report, Japan is among the countries with the highest increase in online searches when comparing Q1 – Q3 2023 to Q1 – Q3 2024, followed by Taiwan, Albania, Singapore, Finland, United Arab Emirates, Curaçao, Aruba, Thailand, and Guatemala. At the same time, Rio de Janeiro entered the trending list, with the number of searches for Brazil up by 136 percent for Carnival weekend.
