More specifically, according to INSETE, the Greek Tourism Confederation’s (SETE) research body and to data provided by its Air Data Tracker, the number of seats to Greece from Germany are up by 30.5 percent, the Netherlands by 34 percent, Italy by 16.2 percent, the US by 10 percent, the UK 2.8 percent and from France by 3.5 percent. Indicative of the robust demand, INSETE found that in January so far, the number of available seats on international flights per month stands at 903,274, up by 13.4 percent over the same period a year ago. In February, the number of available airline seats to Greece is up by 17.2 percent over the same month a year ago to 837.517 and by 22 percent in March against the year-ago period to over 1 million. Compared to rival markets, Greece is seeing an overall increase of 12 percent with Spain at 11.8 percent and 5.9 percent in Portugal. To meet the strong demand, a number of airlines and tour operators have announced more seats for Greece or are starting seasonal flights early. In November, Jet2.com and Jet2holidays announced the addition of some 70,000 seats to Greece as part of their summer 2024 program. Additionally, US airline Delta said it will be boosting its flights from Boston to Athens this year. American Airlines is starting flights to Athens earlier this year, Air Canada is expected to extend its flight schedule from Montreal to the Greek capital in the summer, and TUI UK is adding 250,000 seats to its summer 2024 program. Moreover, Greece’s national carrier AEGEAN announced that it is launching its largest-ever winter schedule. Seats to Greece were up by 2.2 percent last summer over the same period a year ago. More flights obviously equals more passengers, and the Airport clearly cannot cope NOW! After 17 year’s of holidaying twice a year on the island it is starting to really put us off visiting even after all these year’s, and we now dread the inevitable delays! As senior traveller’s, the massive delays are so exhausting, and makes us question whether the 4-hour plane journey alone and all the unwanted hassle is really worth it … Reply Leave a Comment Cancel Reply Save my name, email, and website in this browser for the next time I comment.
